Recent advances in artificial intelligence have long remained accessible to only a small group of corporations and highly-skilled individuals. The young team from Cologne decided to bridge this gap of accessibility by developing a prototype of an AI assistant that solved a problem everyone faces every day: manually writing meeting summaries after long days of back-to-back meetings.
In the past, many AI assistants felt unnatural to use, and interacting with this type of software was associated with speaking in special ways to ensure the models understood the language accurately. “Our ambition is to build an AI assistant that works like magic. We want users to just put a phone on the table, hit record, and get a summary of the meeting nearly instantaneously”, says Louis M. Morgner, co-founder & product lead. “After showing the prototype to many customers, the reaction is always the same: they are mind-blown how far this technology has come”, continues Benedikt F. Böringer, co-founder & operations lead.
jamie is a software that runs in the browser, as well as natively on macOS and Windows, and turns the audio from meetings into meeting summaries in business-writing quality within seconds. It is based on OpenAI’s cutting-edge GPT-3 model which has been trained on more than 175 billion parameters. Through clever use of advanced speech-to-text transcription models, chunking algorithms, and prompt optimization, the software demonstrated impressive results in a range of tests the team has carried out. “It is impressive to see how far this technology has come and I can’t wait to see others using jamie to make their lives easier”, says Tom Bachem, Founder & Chancellor of Code University, one of the investors backing the team.
The team behind Jamie is determined to help anyone who spends a lot of time in meetings reclaim focus while saving time by automatically generating the world’s best meeting summaries and optimizing the models over the coming months. The team’s vision is to make the manual act of writing up summaries an activity of the past.
On Thursday, the 13th of October 2022, the company is slowly opening access to the public while ensuring this technology is brought to market responsibly to avoid misuse and ethical opposition. Customers who signed up on their website (meetjamie.ai) are onboarded on a rolling basis over the upcoming months. The team expects to fully open the tool to the public in Q1 2023.
